Sounds of Spring!
April 8, 2006
Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, written for his friend Stadler, is one of the greatest musical gifts of all time. It combines exquisite writing for the instrument with great nobility of expression. This program shows Mozart as the fully developed young man, a master of his art, and nearly ready to move on to wider horizons until, like all composers of great clarinet works, he died. We will stretch the barriers of the string quartet. Then we will perform the delightful Bass Quintet by Dvořák , whose music Johannes Brahms described as "endlessly beautiful."
